McDonald's was founded in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in California. In 1954, Ray Kroc joined the chain and built it into a global franchise, making it the most successful fast food corporation in the world. The company has become a symbol of globalization and the spread of the American way of life. The first Singapore branch opened in 1979 at Liat Towers.
